Pirarucu Lodge
Pirarucú is one of the most exclusive and legendary fishing destinations in the Amazon, dedicated to finding arapaima.
What sets Pirarucú apart from the others is the arapaima. Pirarucú is the name for this fish in Guarani and Portuguese, and means “red fish”. Arapaima gigas is a prehistoric freshwater species endemic to the Amazon Basin. It is one of the oldest fish lineages in the world, known for its exceptional strength and fighting spirit. It can grow to over 180 kg and reach a length of up to 3 meters, and it progresses extremely quickly in its first years of life.
The arapaima is a breather, obtaining up to 70% of its oxygen from the atmosphere. It can often be seen rising to the surface to take in air, which makes for extremely visual fishing. When feeding, it makes loud splashes and loud sounds, and often even jumps out of the water to catch its prey. It feeds mainly on fish and crustaceans, but as an opportunistic predator, it also consumes other aquatic organisms.
When hooked, the arapaima impresses with explosive leaps and long, powerful escapes, leading to unforgettable fights. Pirarucú is not only synonymous with the largest specimens of this species, but also a destination where you can catch other Amazonian species such as arowana, tambaqui and peacock bass.
The Mamirauá Sustainable Development Reserve is one of the largest protected floodplain forests in the world, spread between the Solimões, Japurá and Auti-Paraná rivers. This unique ecosystem plays a key role in the conservation of freshwater swamp forests, which make up only a small part of the Brazilian Amazon, and is also recognized under the international Ramsar Convention for the Conservation of Wetlands.

Uakari Lodge is a comfortable and beautiful accommodation built from wood in the traditional style of the local Caboclos people, and also serves as an ecotourism lodge during the rest of the year. Uakari Lodge is managed by the local indigenous community with the support of a regional institute, allowing guests to experience an authentic and sustainable stay in the heart of the Amazon jungle.
The lodge is located in the heart of the Mamirauá Sustainable Development Reserve, so the boat trips to the fishing grounds are very short. Most guests return to the lodge during the day for a carefully prepared lunch, before continuing their afternoon fishing.
The package includes all meals and drinks, as well as additional services such as traditional Brazilian drinks. Guests also have access to daily laundry, satellite telephone and Wi-Fi, so there is no lack of modern comforts even in the middle of the jungle.
The accommodation consists of ten floating houses with private bathrooms, designed for fishermen and nature lovers. The central part of the lodge includes a dining room, living room and kitchen. The stay also includes excursions that allow you to explore the exceptional Amazon ecosystem.
