The Santa Cruz River is one of the largest rivers in Argentina. Fishing here is based primarily on the use of spey rods and Intruder lures, which dominate the daily routine along the shallow banks of this mighty river. Fishing is done by wading, as steelhead migrate along the banks and through shallow currents. The fish here can exceed 9 kilograms and are known for their spectacular jumps out of the water, which pose a real challenge to even the most experienced anglers and thoroughly test their equipment.

Some of the largest and strongest fish in Patagonia return to this river every year to spawn. The Los Plateados area, approximately 80 km from the ocean, offers a variety of pools and excellent fishing conditions. All fishing sections can be easily accessed by all-terrain vehicle, as they are only a few minutes from the accommodation.

Fishing for these exceptional fish is an unforgettable experience, while the magnificence of the river and the surrounding landscape create a truly stunning backdrop.

We recommend using two-handed rods. If you want to learn Spey casting or improve your technique, our guides are also excellent instructors. Rods in the 7-9 wt range are suitable, Skagit lines with different tips for different types of water, with the 12’ T-14 being a great all-rounder. Flies in black, blue, orange and similar colors create good contrast in the murky glacial water. Classic winter patterns for Steelhead, such as Intruders and Leeches, work great in a variety of sizes. Slow “swinging” the fly while moving down large pools and streams is recommended. The guides will provide you with all the necessary information.

Flies, lines, leaders and other equipment are available at the lodge store. The lodge is located approximately 50 miles from the mouth of the Santa Cruz River. It accommodates up to six anglers in double rooms. The lodge is simple but comfortable and offers everything you need for a pleasant stay. Its location offers views of some of the best Steelhead fishing pools on the river.

Breakfast and dinner are served in the lodge, where an Argentinian chef prepares top-notch dishes, including excellent beef and lamb from Argentina. Lunch is served on the riverside, so you can make the most of your fishing day. Upon your return, the warmth of the fireplace and a glass of wine will be waiting for you to end the day perfectly.
